Dr. G. Anthony Slagel, D.O. earned his B.S. with honors from the University of Dayton and his medical degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship at Grandview Medical Center and dermatology residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. A board-certified dermatologist and laser surgeon, Dr. Slagel previously led the Dermatology Service at Moncrief Army Community Hospital.
He has practiced in Georgia since 1988 with Piedmont Physicians Group and Fayette Medical Clinic before joining First Georgia Physician Group. Dr. Slagel is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, and a past president of the Georgia Society of Dermatologists. He was named one of America’s Top Physicians in 2003.
Michelle Hix, C.L.T., RMA. with 27 years of experience in Dermatology, Michelle has built a reputation for not only treating skin but for empowering her patients to feel confident and embrace the skin they’re in. As a certified laser technician specializing in a wide range of cosmetic treatments, she’s known for her expertise in crafting personalized treatment plans that blend cutting-edge products with advanced techniques to address each patient’s unique needs and goals. Michelle’s passion lies in watching her patients’ skin transformations come to life, giving them the confidence to glow inside and out.
When she's not in the office, Michelle enjoys life as an animal lover, a devoted Disney enthusiast, and a proud mom of two. Her compassionate approach extends beyond her professional work, where she’s known for her warm and friendly nature, making each patient feel truly valued.
Joy Bastarache, Practice Manager, RMA. brings over 31 years of experience in healthcare—more than 20 of those dedicated to Dermatology, including a decade with First Georgia Dermatology. Her deep-rooted passion for skin health drives everything she does, from patient care to practice leadership.
Joy excels in creating a warm, efficient environment where personalized care and team collaboration are top priorities. Her thoughtful leadership ensures each patient feels seen, supported, and confident in their care journey.
Outside the office, she loves beachside getaways to Destin and Navarre, trying new restaurants, and spending time with her family—especially spoiling her two beloved grandchildren.
Frankie McCurry, PA-C. is a board-certified Physician Assistant specializing in dermatology. She earned her B.S. in Kinesiology from Georgia College & State University, where she was a 4-time collegiate athlete and Academic All-American. She completed her Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Tennessee, serving as Class President and earning induction into the Pi Alpha Honor Society.
Frankie is a member of the Georgia Dermatology PAs and a Fellow of the Society of Dermatology PAs, currently pursuing her Diplomate Fellow certification. Originally from Dahlonega, GA, she enjoys traveling, running, hiking, medical mission work, and spending time with her husband, family, and two dogs.
Shelley Albertson, FNP-BC. is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in dermatology, with a Doctoral degree in Nursing Practice. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Augusta University and is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Shelley is also a member of the Georgia Dermatology Physician Assistants and plans to obtain her Dermatology Nurse Practitioner certification soon.
Before joining First Georgia Physician Group, Shelley worked at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Piedmont Fayette Hospital, and Piedmont Urgent Care, gaining experience in pediatric, adult, and geriatric care.
A North Georgia native, Shelley enjoys spending time with her three sons, traveling, reading, exercising, and watching sports.
Hannah Wheelr, PA-C. is a Physician Assistant specializing in Dermatology. Originally from metro Atlanta, she earned undergraduate degrees in Biology and Psychology from the University of Georgia. Before PA school, she worked as a medical assistant in Dermatology, where she developed a strong interest in the specialty. She received her Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Mercer University in Atlanta, completing both elective rotations in Dermatology. Hannah is also a member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants. She enjoys getting to know her patients and providing personalized care. Outside of work, Hannah spends time with her husband, family, and two dogs. She also enjoys running marathons and traveling.
